Bordering Scarborough and East York, Victoria Village is a peaceful, middle-class community near the East Don River Valley, the Canadian Pacific Railway line, and the light industry. A steady stream of young families from diverse cultural backgrounds has begun moving into Victoria Village as it is an affordable neighborhood in transition.

Community Overview

The community of Victoria Village runs from east Don River on the west to Lawrence Avenue East in the north, Victoria Park Avenue on the east, and Northline Road on the south. Victoria Park Village was named after Victoria Park Avenue, the main street that borders this neighborhood. The community is sometimes referred to as Sloane, another main road running through the community.

1. Housing:

The residential real estate lies in the center of the community, surrounded by industrial properties north of the Canadian Pacific Railway line and south of Eglinton Avenue. The Victoria Village residential buildings were built in the 1950s and early 1960s and included brick detached and semi-detached homes, split-level homes, and bungalows. Some of these homes back onto a park or valley, providing spectacular views and additional privacy. The detached houses are primarily situated on suburban lots with an average frontage of 50 to 60 feet. Several rental apartments, condo buildings, and townhouses are located on the neighborhood's perimeter. The city has developed Plans to construct more condominium buildings along Eglinton Avenue. With many apartment buildings, the community is rental-friendly, and about 51% of the population are tenants.

2. Demographic:

Victoria Village is a culturally diverse community. About 38% of the residents are of European Origin, 21% are of South Asian origin, and 15% are of East and Southeast Asia origin. The top birthplaces of all immigrants are the Philippines, Africa, Pakistan, India, Greece, and China.

3. Transportation:

Around 40% of residents travel by public transit. Numerous buses run through the community and have stops along Lawrence Avenue, Victoria Park Road, Eglinton Avenue, and Sloane Avenue. At Eglinton Avenue, the upcoming Eglinton Crosstown LRT will have two stations, which will shorten the commute to the Eglinton Subway station on Yonge Street by half. The community is very close to Don Valley Parkway. Car commuters can quickly get on the route and conveniently travel in all directions.

4. Recreation:

Anewen Greenbelt, Charles Sauriol Conservation Area, and Wigmore Park are among the municipal parks in the neighborhood. As part of the Toronto ravine system, Anewen Greenbelt forms part of the ravine system. Toronto Parks, Forestry, and Recreation Division manages municipal parks in Victoria Village. At the Victoria Village Public Library, located at 184 Sloane Avenue, children and adults can attend programs, and seniors can participate in the Bridge Club.

5. Shopping:

Victoria Park Village offers a multitude of shopping centers at the main intersections bordering the neighborhood, making shopping more accessible than ever. Shopping options include the Golden Mile, Eglinton Square, and Victoria Terrace, where you can find everything from supermarkets to department stores to small shops. Shoppers can also discover a handful of shopping plazas on Eglinton and Victoria Park Avenues.

6. Schools:

Three elementary schools serve the students from JK to grade 5, Victoria Village Public School in the north, Sloane Public School in the center, and O'Connor Public School in the south. Students from Grade 6 to grade 8 will attend either Milne Valley Middle School or Gordon A Brown Middle School. And high school students will need to attend Victoria Park Collegiate Institute at the neighboring Parkwoods-Donalda community.

Victoria Village offers different types of housing within its boundary.
